The Jail System

There are 67 counties and 105 jail facilites in the state with a combine rated capacity of 12,852. The Alabama Department of Corrections has responsibility for inspecting jails for standards compliance.

The Prison System

The Alabama Dept. of Corrections managed 29,421 inmates as of 2007. The agency operates 20 facilities with a staff of approximately 3,100.

The Community Corrections System

The Board of Pardons & Paroles (Executive Branch) supervises 51,745 probationers and 7,790 parolees through 53 field offices throughout the state.
