Overview of Idaho's Correctional System Idaho

The Jail System

There are 40 jail facilities in Idaho's 44 counties with a rated capacity for 3,469 inmates. A jail inspection program with voluntary compliance is operated by the ID Sheriffs' Assoc.

The Prison System

The Dept. of Correction operates 9 institutions and 4 community work centers housing 7,319 inmates in 2007. The agency has 1,350 employees. The Department's FY 2009 budget is $196 million.

The Community Corrections System

The DOC's Div. of Field & Community Services supervises 10,800 (felons) of the 48,663 probationers in the state, and 3,114 parolees through 22 district and satellite offices.
2007 Crime Rate for Idaho
The crime rate in Idaho is about 33% lower than the national average rate. Property crimes account for around 90.4% of the crime rate in Idaho which is 31% lower than the national rate.
