The Jail System

There are 116 jail facilities in Missouri's 115 counties with a rated capacity of 10,790. There is no inspection or jail standards program in the state.

The Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections managed 29,857 inmates in 21 correctional facilities at the end of 2007. The DOC has 11,598 employees.

The Community Corrections System

The Board of Probation & Parole, an agency within the DOC, supervised 54,240 probationers and 19,849 parolees at yearend 2007. The agency has 40 districts in six regions.
2007 Crime Rate for Missouri
The crime rate in Missouri is about 12% higher than the national average rate. Property crimes account for around 88.1% of the crime rate in Missouri which is 13% higher than the national rate.
