The Jail System

New Hampshire has 10 counties, each with a jail and a combined capacity of 1,774. There is no jail inspection or standards program in the state.

The Prison System

In 2007, the Dept. of Corrections managed 2,943 inmates in four prisons, 3 community facilities, and a psychiatric unit. The DOC has 1,126 employees and the agency budget was $93.2 million in FY 2007.

The Community Corrections System

The DOC's Division of Field Services supervises 4,650 probationers and 1,653 parolees through 11 district offices in 2007.
