Friends of the Norval Morris Project
:: HOME > What We Are Doing > Norval Morris Project > Anyone who is interested in helping the field of corrections to become “more just, efficient, and humane” by furthering the innovative thinking and work of Dr. Norval Morris is welcome to join the Friends of the Norval Morris Project group.

Group members support the project by:
  • Dialoguing about Project questions and directions through online discussion forums,
  • Staying informed about Project progress and outcomes,
  • Reviewing project documents,
  • Sharing knowledge and advice about Project topics,
  • Referring Project staff to contacts who can provide assistance or further topic information, and
  • Helping to disseminate information about the Project and products that are ready for publication.

Through the online forum on NIC’s website, the Friends are currently discussing the topics of Corrections Workforce Transformation and Safely Reducing the Corrections Population, as well as the questions:
  • Can research, as it is currently structured and conducted, be useful to corrections?
  • Can corrections, as it is currently structured and practiced, be evidence-based?

Who Are the Friends?
This group includes various leaders and experts in organizational culture, the transfer of innovation, interdisciplinary teams, large system change, criminal justice, and human services. Coming from all over the country, these experts and leaders have been referred to the Project by NIC staff, J-SAT staff, other Friends, Keystone Group members, and topic team members.
Local Friends Groups
When several Friends Forum members live in close proximity, they may occasionally be asked to meet in person to provide the Project with a live forum for a discussion of specific questions or topics. Currently, there is a Friends group in Boulder, Colorado and another is anticipated in Washington, D.C. These lively discussions are invaluable to the Project, providing stimulating dialogue and critical review of Project ideas, processes, and potential outcomes.
