1998 Annual Report on Drug Use Among Adult and Juvenile Arrestees

ADAM (the Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring) program collected interviews and drug tests of over 30,000 arrestees in 35 metropolitan areas during 1998. The results of this research are presented in this publication. While cocaine use has declined, the use of opiates has remained stable with female arrestees most likely to test positive for their use. Methamphetamine use is seen primarily among arrestees in Western U.S. cities, while the use of marijuana is stable and predominates among tests of young male offenders. In 15 of 35 sites, two-thirds of the adult arrestees and more than half of juvenile male arrestees tested positive for at least one drug. Accession Number: 015203
