Helping TANF Recipients Stay Employed: Early Evidence from the GAPS Initiative

GAPS is a program which helps welfare recipients make the transition between dependence on welfare and self-sufficiency. This voluntary program utilizes case management services, and is available to those recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). During the first six months in the program, most of the participants (80%) were continuously employed. Child care issues and transportation negatively affected 33% and 30%, respectively. Participants were highly satisfied with services overall (73%), ease of reaching case manager (83%), and how well case manager understood their problems (82%). Accession Number: 015467
