Registration laws, which require offenders to give their addresses and other identifying information to local law enforcement or state agency, are used to increase public safety by making sex offenders more visible to law enforcement and the public. "This document compares state registration statutes and identifies promising and comprehensive practices in use throughout the country (p.1)."
