This 20-hour (minimum) course is designed to assist in preparing newly appointed law enforcement supervisors for their supervisory role. Sections cover: relevant Commission rules; role identification; values, ethics, and principles; communication; leadership styles; counseling; liability and civil rights issues; planning and organizing; civil rights, racial sensitivity, and cultural diversity; special investigative issues; and the transition from line officer to supervisor. Nine steps of positive counseling are contained in an appendix.
