Lessons learned from effective drug abuse and violent crime prevention programs operated at state and local levels are presented. Program evaluations include: school-based probation -- SBP (Pennsylvania); Detention Center Incarceration Program (Virginia); Merrimack County Adult Diversion Program (New Hampshire); Multnomah County STOP Drug Diversion Program; Homicide and Violent Crime Strike Force in Madison and St. Clair Counties (Illinois); Utah Day Reporting Center -- success with alternative incarceration; Drug Court Program (Oklahoma); and multijurisdictional task forces (MJTFs) -- synthesis of state and local evaluation findings.
