Correctional Privatization in the United States: An Examination of Its Modern History and Future Potential

This summary describes the principle findings of research done regarding privatization in corrections. Some of the findings are: privatization has become an acceptable option due to the explosive growth of the prisoner population; a large body of research shows that privatization can achieve significant cost savings without reducing service quality; and competition between private and public correctional facilities will result in more cost-efficient public agencies.
