Getting Back to Work: Employment Programs for Ex-Offenders

Issues surrounding ex-offender employment programs are discussed. Sections of this report include: introduction to programs, their history, recidivism, and recent research; overview of current activities, such as federal initiatives, state initiatives, and the role of criminal justice policy; nonprofit ex-offender program characteristics and challenges for ex-offender practitioners; moving forward by supporting more effective practices, combining income and skills development, improving continuity of services, increasing investment, and expanding research efforts.
