The Recycling of Juvenile Offenders in Selected Texas Counties

The impact of the Texas juvenile justice reform of 1995 on the recycling rate of juvenile offenders disposed in 20 counties representing almost 50% of statewide dispositions is assessed. Three sections comprise this report: introduction and methodology; referral and disposition trends (referred for less severe offenses and most likely to get supervision in 1997 than in 1994); and recycling results which overall showed a decrease in contact rate and new offenses for juveniles following the reform.
