Recommendations and best practice guidelines for adult substance abuse treatment covering a full range of criminal justice settings and addressing both clinical and programmatic treatment areas are provided (p. xvii). Chapters following an executive summary are: introduction; screening and assessment; triage and placement in treatment services; substance abuse treatment planning; major treatment issues and approaches; adapting offender treatment for specific populations; treatment issues in pretrial and diversion settings; treatment issues specific to jails; treatment issues specific to prisons; treatment for offenders under community supervision; and key issues related to program development. Also included, as appendixes, are a glossary and information about screening and assessment instruments. Throughout the text are boxes with advice to the counselor. Accession Number: 021063
