Milwaukee's High-Rise Jail/Prison Hybrid

Due to severe overcrowding, the Milwaukee County Jail received a ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court that stated the jail no longer had to hold state prisoners that had violated conditions of their community supervision. Therefore, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections created a hybrid community corrections holding facility that contains an 800-bed medium security facility for probation and parole violators and a 210-bed alcohol and drug abuse (AODA) program. The average length of stay will be 30 days. The facility will be administered by the Division of Community Corrections, and all programming will be internal. Accession Number: period178
