Big Chiller Cuts Cooling Costs in Southern California

San Bernardino County, California has implemented an alternative cooling system at the West Valley Detention Center. This system uses a technique known as ice storage, which uses energy at off-peak hours to cool a water/glycol fluid that is circulated through stored water to create ice. During the day, the water/glycol fluid system transfers stored coolant to the facility. During this time, the chillers are shut down, thus saving energy and money. Accession Number: period9
